Description

If you like it steep, start in Campascio, warm up along the line of the Rhaetian Railway to Campocologno and climb next to the church of Campocologno 900 meters in altitude over 5 km in the cool mixed forest towards Lughina. An easy-to-run traverse leads to the next climb in Rossat.

From Rossat it goes up again, 730 meters in altitude in the coniferous forest to the Col d'Anzana on the Italian border with a wonderful view of Valtellina. Now we have reached the tree line: a short somewhat exposed passage and another ascent leads to the lakes Lagh da la Regina (Lake of the Queen) and Lagh dal Mat (Lake of the Madman) and thus after a total of 19 km to the highest point at 2526 meters above sea level.

From here, 12 km lead down to Campascio or Campocologno on good paths with a loss of altitude of about 1900 meters. If you don't feel like altitude, you can take the post bus from Brusio to / from Cavaglione at 1300 m above sea level and thus "save" about 700 meters in altitude and 2 hours uphill or 1 hour downhill. Please note: the post bus (Publicar Val Poschiavo) can only be used by appointment.

The only places to stop for refreshments on the route are at Alp Pescia Bassa (12 km) and Rifugio Ansana (14 km), but only in the presence of the shepherds. It is therefore advisable to take your own food with you. Water can be refueled in the streams.
