Alter Dorfkern von Castrisch

The first 240 vertical meters via Valendas to Versam could still be described as a leisurely roll-in. After that, you have to pedal much harder. There are two longer climbs on this great gravel tour. The varied mountain scenery and fantastic views make up for every drop of sweat.

Description

After the start in Ilanz, the main road with little traffic takes you through three historic village centers. The village of Valendas with the largest wooden well in Europe is particularly worth seeing. From Versam, you turn into the Safiental valley and soon climb steeply up via the scattered settlement of Arezen to Imschlacht. The Maiensässbeizli is almost a must after these first 900 meters of altitude. Here you can enjoy the fantastic view over a delicious “Plättli”.

Put on your windbreaker and whizz through the mountain village of Brün to Valendas. Here comes the second long ascent of around 700 meters to the small village of Dutjen. The Romansh people pronounce it as “Dutscha”. However, the local Walser people call the village Dutjen. Have a drink in the Besenbeizli and continue on enjoyable alpine roads and over the language border to Riein. You'll probably want to treat yourself to a refreshing drink at the village fountain before tackling the last 570 meters downhill. We lead you over a few meters of easy single trails, over the old road, through Sevgein to Ilanz. If you prefer, you can also take the paved village road here.
