Description
Our tour starts leisurely at Disentis train station. We follow the SwitzerlandMobility Route 1 Alpine Bike downhill to Madernal. A bunker disguised as an alpine hut and tank barriers in the greenfield testify to the strategic importance that this place must have once had. We change the Rhine side and roll over Pardomat and Cumpadials to Surrein, where the church tower houses a large colony of bats every summer. But during the day, unfortunately, nothing happens here.
Now it gets sporty - up to Rabius and some hairpin bends beyond. At Campieschas we reach a hiking trail on which we pass the last meters to Sogn Benedetg. A visit to the unconventional chapel, built by Peter Zumthor, is a must. The restored remains of the old chapel, a few meters later, are also worth a visit. It is a nice place to rest.
After Clavadi we drive to Con da Vitg. From here our skills are tested: The forest descent into the Val Russein is not without - especially steep! It is easier in the valley itself. On the road to the cantonal road we only need the brakes. Once at the bottom, we make a small turn over the old wooden bridge Punt Russein before we drive back to Disentis via Madernal on the same route.
