Directions

Once you have arrived in Thalkirch, Turra, we recommend that you visit the exhibition stable of the Safier Ställe association right next to the post bus stop before starting your hike. There you will receive interesting information about the importance of the stables and the Walser scattered settlements, which shape the landscape in the region. You start your hike following the valley road back to Thalkirch. After a few minutes, leave the road and turn right over a bridge and follow the river to Thalkirch. While hiking, you will recognise the typical Safi settlement landscape with the scattered houses on the left side of the valley (sometimes also with free-standing ovens), stables, hay barns and alpine huts (called "Stupli"). In Thalkirch it is worth visiting the small church. From the church, walk back along the valley road for a short distance and then follow the hiking trail, which takes its course immediately to the right after a residential building. You walk across a meadow in the direction of Bawald and a little later you reach the enchanting forest, which has many legends to tell. The path continues through forest and over alpine meadows up to the Camaner huts. The view from up here is magnificent. They overlook almost the entire valley. Camanaboda is the highest year-round inhabited settlement in the valley. The Safier Heimatmuseum is also located here. Despite its small size, the "aalt Huus", as it is also called, has all the rooms customary for the time and you can learn impressively how people lived and worked in the past. It is open from May to October every second and fourth Sunday of the month from 12 noon to 3 p.m. or by appointment. From Camanaboda, the path follows a section of the road before descending steeply to Safien Platz at the "Hof".
