Description
At the foot of Piz Muraun on Lukmanierstrasse lies Curaglia, the largest village in the municipality of Medel. After starting at the church, the path climbs through a wild gorge with layered slate stones. The next part is steep and sweaty over a wooded ridge, past the Alps and over the tree line to Alp Soliva. This is the highest point of the stage. In the far south the Medelser glacier appears, in the north the white Tödi massif greets. The mountain path now winds over the undulating high plateau, which is overgrown with heather bushes and perennials. On the descent in view: Disentis with its dominant monastery building. According to old monastery chronicles, abbots and monks of Walser descent also worked here.
Surrounded by overgrown boulders on the edge of the huge erosion funnel of the Bova Gronda, the path leads into a dense mountain forest. This is followed by a relaxing section before concentration is required again on the slippery path over two torrent runs. In a hollow in the terrain, the lovely Lag da Laus suddenly appears with its benches and fireplaces. It is ideal for a break and is a popular excursion destination, as it can be easily reached on foot from the village of Laus in an hour. After the alpine meadows, a last rough stretch leads through the forest to Alp Con. Visible from the narrow path: the impressive erosion funnel on the opposite slope, briefly the imposing buildings of the former Tenigerbad also appear at the back of the valley. From 1580 onwards, a wide variety of uses alternated, and all attempts to reopen it failed. Currently, the spa with hotel complex is closed (as of 2023).
From Alp Con Sut, the route follows the road, which arrives in long hairpin bends through the forest at the hamlet of Val. The only inn in the small settlement is a cozy, original Usteria (closed Mon/Tue) and at the same time the stage destination.
Geheimtipp
Pack your swimsuit for a swim in the Lag da Laus - and/or load barbecue food into the lunch.
The Ustria Val Sumvitg is not always open. Please reserve early.
Buy enough lunch in Curaglia, because there is only peace and nothing at the stage location. Great village shop in Curaglia.
You can find out more about the entire San Gottardo Walser Trail from the International Association for Walserism.
Sicherheitshinweis
In uncertain weather conditions, the tour should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar comes up during the hike, you should turn back in time.
Start early, especially in autumn, as the stage is rather long.
