T 05 Via Francisca: Buchs - Maienfeld

The first part of this stage can be described as the "meditation stage". We make a pilgrimage for the first 3 hours on the Rhine embankment path to Trübbach. To our left we see the castle of the Prince of Liechtenstein.  At Trübbach we cross the Rhine and reach the "Ländle". In front of us, in Balzers, Gutenberg Castle. Immediately afterwards we leave Liechtenstein again and we go uphill to the Waffenplatz and the fortress St. Luzisteig. In earlier years, this was a barracks of the "train", i.e. the horse and mule troops. We now descend through the forest and reach one of the most famous wine-growing regions in eastern Switzerland, the Bündner Herrschaft. In Maienfeld, today's destination, you have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful nectar. But Maienfeld is also "Heidiland". Thus, a crowning (after so many princes and castles) conclusion of today. 

The stages in this documentation are suggestions that each pilgrim can adapt to his wishes. however, the technical data always concern the assumption that these stages are completed in one day.
