Description

The trail run to the Palfries mountain station offers an unforgettable nature experience and requires both stamina and concentration. On natural roads and forest paths, the route leads through forests, along striking rocky passages and past impressive rock faces. The steep ascent through the Hinterspinaweg in particular demands stamina, but rewards you with breathtaking views.

After this challenging section, the landscape opens up to lush meadows cultivated by farmers. The tranquillity and unspoilt nature of the surroundings create a unique atmosphere that invites you to take a deep breath. In the final section, the trail leads across idyllic alpine meadows to the Palfries mountain inn. Here we can enjoy a well-earned break and fortify ourselves with regional delicacies.

The cable car mountain station is just a moderate climb away. Once at the top, an impressive panorama of the peaks and valleys of the region opens up before us. The return journey on the cable car offers the opportunity to relax at the end of the tour and reflect on the impressions.

Geheimtipp

This trail running route offers just as much for experienced runners who want to improve their coordination, fitness and endurance on challenging trails as it does for outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy the alpine scenery to the full. Experience both: up under your own steam and down with the cable car!

Sicherheitshinweis

After winter or when there is light snow, it is not advisable to use the path via Hinterspina. Melting snow can lead to falling rocks and the steep terrain can be dangerously slippery.

Ausrüstung

Normal trail running equipment (good trail shoes recommended), weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection. Take enough food and drink with you (self-catering principle). Maps and mobile phone with good reception.

Directions

The trail run route starts at the valley station of the Palfries cable car and leads along natural roads and forest paths to the hamlet of Oberragnatsch. The route continues to Heiligkreuz until the intersection of Kürschnengasse, Tscherfingergasse and Erzweg. There we follow the Erzweg, which later branches off into the Hinterspinaweg, which begins at 564 m above sea level. M. Via the steep Hinterspinaweg, the route leads us through the wonderful forest, past the Balmenwand, to Cholgrueb.

In the most challenging section of the trail, we climb through dense forest and along striking rocky passages. The steep climb requires stamina and concentration, but the surrounding landscape and views make up for the effort. We then reach Hinterspinagut, a large meadow farmed by farmers. We pass the Hinderspina mountain farm and cross sparse woodland before crossing under the cable car track. From there, the trail is marked (red-white-red) via Tschuggenwald to the Palfries mountain inn. The last section runs mostly over alpine meadows and finally leads us to the Palfries mountain inn. From there, it is only a short, moderate ascent to the cable car mountain station. Once there, we can relax and take in the view of the mountains and valleys and then the cable car takes us back down to the valley comfortably and without any further effort.
