Description
Our region has two great riches: culture and nature. Two riches to be enhanced, made known and appreciated by those who live in these areas and by those who come to visit us. This, in short, is the purpose of the Culture and Nature trail between Mesocco and Soazza.
The San Bernardino is historically one of the most important passes in the Central Alps. Over the millennia it has seen a continuous passage of people, animals, plants and artifacts. A movement that could not fail to leave traces or root presences that still characterize the Mesolcina and Calanca.
In the area of the Castle of Mesocco, the valley narrows into a funnel, concentrating in a small space, not only the Moesa river and the streets that have followed one another over time, but also the finds relating to more than one hundred centuries of history. A density and a time span that in the Alps is the prerogative of only a few other places.
The Culture and Nature educational trail consists of a circuit that begins at the most historically interesting point, the parking lots in front of the Castle, crosses the Via San Bernardino following it for a short stretch and then stretches on the western side up to the Mont Grand area in Soazza. Starting from the Cultural Center of Circola di Soazza, the two streets will rejoin again to reach the Castle area.
A brochure explaining the peculiarities of the thematic route is available at the tourist office in San Bernardino.
