«tuns contemporans» - the Biennale for New Music Graubünden offers a wide range of musical experiences from staged performances to classical orchestral works.

Description

Date
04.04.2025 from 19:00 to 20:05 o'clock
Place
Theatre Chur

The British composer Anna Clyne is one of the most frequently performed composers of the present day. In her saxophone concert "Glasslands", the Grammy-nominated artist explores her own fascination with Irish folklore. The central figure in this fantastic world is the Banshee - a banshee from Celtic mythology, who announces an approaching death with a lamenting and screeching sound. The solo part will be interpreted by Asya Fateyeva, one of the outstanding representatives of classical saxophone playing. At the same time, the important Swiss composer Alfred Zimmerlin will be honoured as part of tuns contemporans on the occasion of his 70th birthday. This not only with the grand premiere of his stage work "Nachts wird mit wetter", but also with "Ohne Titel (Pragma I)", Zimmerlin's idiosyncratic examination of the genre of the symphony. The varied concert evening will be opened by a local work. With "Mon ami bleu", the Chur composer Fortunat Frölich and the video artist Myriam Thyes transformed observations of the painting "Homage to Mandelbrot No. 11 – Skywalk" by the Graubünden painter Otto W. Liesch into their respective medium – the composer into polyphonic music, the video artist into a spatial animation. In this way, a dynamic, multimedia experience was created from the viewing of the picture.

Program:
Fortunat Frölich (*1954) : «Mon ami bleu» (2023/ 24) for orchestra and video animation by Myriam Thyes
Alfred Zimmerlin: «Untitled (Pragma I)»
Anna Clyne: «Glasslands», for soprano saxophone and orchestra
