Zwischenstopp am grössten Holzbrunnen Europas in Valendas
Today's tour shows us the diversity of the Surselva. Shortly after the start in Ilanz, we cross the Vorderrhein and thus the language border for the first time. In the village of Sagogn, which was settled 2300 years ago, Romansh - our fourth national language - is spoken. The contrast? The golf course is also located here. Back on the right bank of the river, we also pass Europe's largest wooden well.

Description

From Ilanz, the route leads us to Sagogon (pronounced “Sagoin”) - a sunny terrace on the valley floor. From here we take one of the last “main roads” with a gravel surface down to Valendas-Sagogn station. As we cross the Rhine again, we cross the language border for the second time. German is spoken in Valendas - Walser German. From spring to fall, you can stop for a bite to eat in the small pub by the station. Snacks and drinks are served.

But be careful, after this break, the steep climb up the old station road to Valendas awaits us. After this short ascent, we roll along the little-used road to Castrisch and pass the language border again.

Now follows a section that is hardly frequented by tourists. The surface provides variety and shows why the gravel bike is the perfect companion: asphalt, gravel, concrete and a short single trail. In principle, you could end the tour here, but we opt for the additional loop via Polenweg, Rueun and Schnaus and thus for additional crossings of the language border.

Geheimtipp

This tour is an insider tip, especially on the right bank of the Vorderrhein, and you cross the language border seven times in total. Where else can you do that? Only in the Surselva!

Sicherheitshinweis

The tour should not be undertaken in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes are frequent in the mountains. If a rain front or similar is approaching during the hike, you should turn back in good time.
